The Mildura Health Foundation is proud to launch Stage 2 of its Patient Accommodation Project, building on the success of the Dr. Julie Zrna Centre and responding to the growing need for accommodation for regional patients undergoing cancer treatment locally.
Stage 2 will see the building of a new accommodation complex incorporating contemporary studio-style accommodation, a two-bedroom apartment and a dedicated guest support office at 208 Thirteenth Street, right next door to the Dr. Julie Zrna Centre.
Mildura Health Foundation Chair Terry Hill said the project relied on the community fundraising $4.15 million for the land, build and high quality fit out of the accommodation.
"The community played a vital role in bringing the Dr. Julie Zrna Centre to life, and we're hoping to once again receive that incredible support for its expansion," Mr Hill said.
"We want to ensure more regional patients and families have access to the comfort and support they deserve while receiving cancer treatment in Mildura."
Since opening in September 2025, the Dr. Julie Zrna Centre has welcomed more than 80 guests and continues to experience strong demand, with weekly occupancy rates of up to 80 per cent across its 10 self-contained apartments.
"Stage 2 of the Dr. Julie Zrna Centre will allow us to support even more patients and families from across Sunraysia, the Mallee, Far West New South Wales and South Australia, helping ease the financial and emotional burden that comes with accessing accommodation while undergoing cancer treatment away from home,” Mr Hill said.
The Patient Accommodation Project will also pave the way for the Foundation’s vision of bringing a PET/CT scanner service to Mildura, closing a key gap in cancer care in the region. Stage 2 will ensure those travelling to have a scan or pre and post-treatment consultations, can be accommodated.
Mr Hill said the official launch of Stage 2 of the Dr. Julie Zrna Centre accommodation is a call to action with donors encouraged to come forward to find out more about the project.
No amount is too small with all donations over $2 tax deductible given the Foundation is a registered charity with the ACNC. Once the Foundation reaches the required fundraising target, construction planning can commence.
The aim is for the patient accommodation to be available in 2028.
