Patient Accomodation - Stage 2

Stage 2 - Patient Accommodation

Following the overwhelming support for the establishment of the Dr. Julie Zrna Centre, the Mildura Health Foundation is proud to progress to Stage 2 of this important community project.

Opened in September 2025, Stage 1 delivered ten modern, self-contained apartments designed to provide a comfortable home away from home for people travelling to Mildura for cancer treatment. Since opening, the facility has experience strong demand with occupancy rates up to 80%, demonstrating the ongoing need for accessible patient accommodation with the 13th Street Health Precinct. Since opening more than 80 guests have chosen to stay at the Dr. Julie Zrna Centre. Feedback from the guests has been overwhelmingly positive.

Building on this success and planning for the future, Stage 2 will provide contemporary studio-style accommodation designed specifically for patients and carers requiring shorter stays along with an additional two bedroom apartment. The studio rooms will cater to those travelling to Mildura for specialist appointments, diagnostic services, oncology consultations, treatment planning and other healthcare needs that may not require extended accommodation. Stage 2 of the Accommodation will be built at 208 Thirteenth Street. The Mildura Health Foundation has set a fundraising target of $4.15million to purchase the land, build and fit out the accommodation.
Consistent with the vision of Stage 1, the new studio rooms will provide a welcoming, private and supportive environment where guests can focus on their health and wellbeing. Thoughtfully designed with comfort and convenience in mind, the accommodation will offer modern amenities while remaining just moments from the healthcare services patients depend on.

For many people across Sunraysia, the Mallee, Far Western New South Wales and South Australia, travelling for medical care can be both stressful and costly. Stage 2 will help ease this burden by providing affordable, purpose-built accommodation close to treatment and support services.

The progression to Stage 2 reflects not only the demonstrated demand for patient accommodation, but also the Mildura Health Foundation's ongoing commitment to improving regional healthcare outcomes. By expanding the amount of accommodation available to those needing treatment for cancer, we can ensure even more patients and families have access to the comfort, dignity and support they deserve while receiving care away from home.
