$10,000 Security Boost for Dr. Julie Zrna Centre

Those staying at Mildura’s newest health accommodation facility, the Dr. Julie Zrna Centre, will have an additional layer of security thanks to the generosity of two businesses.

Mildura Health Foundation has been awarded $10,000 to install a new street facing security camera at the Thirteenth Street facility, ensuring those staying at the 10 self-contained apartments while undergoing cancer or diagnostic treatment, feel safe and secure.

Community Underwriting, which insures not-for-profits and charities, has awarded Mildura Health Foundation $5000 as part of its annual Small Grants Program – that grant was then matched by MGA Insurance Group.

Community Underwriting Executive Director Graeme Berwick said the Foundation was among 75 of its clients who made a successful grant application for a specific project in the 2025 funding round.

“Each year we allocate 5% of our annual surplus to clients that renew their insurances with us,” Mr Berwick said.

"We have quite a diverse list of not-for-profits and charities, everything from cancer to women’s refuges and pet rescues who ask for different projects to be funded, even down to senior citizen clubs who want a defibrillator for their premises.

He said hearing the feedback from grant recipients about how much difference a small grant could make was truly satisfying.

MGA Insurance Group Managing Director Paul George said MGA was proud to match the $5000 Community Underwriting grant for the Mildura Health Foundation.

“This aligns with our own values in protecting what matters most,” Mr George said.

“Congratulations Mildura Health Foundation on this initiative, providing support services critical to the region for access to vital care.”

The Dr. Julie Zrna Centre was opened last August following major fundraising efforts, grants and contributions from businesses and the community, that allowed the facility to be built.

Fundraising now continues for annual operational costs.
